Getting Started as a Family Child Care Provider

• Decide whether to get a Family Child Care License or Residential Certificate. Visit Child Care Licensing for the comparison of basic requirements.
• Contact the Child Care Licensing Program, read the licensing rules for whichever you decide.
• You will also need to take the New Provider Training online by clicking here.
• Apply for you license.

Family Provider Start-Up Grant Information & Application

Care About Childcare has funding available for individuals that have been issued a Family Child Care License within the past 12 months. The grant is awarded as a reimbursement after start-up expenses have been incurred. The provider must submit copies of receipts documenting all expenditures being requested for reimbursement. The grant reimburses providers up to $400 for costs associated with the initial licensing process. Please keep receipts for the following purchases and fees:

• Child Care Licensing Fees
• Business License Fees
• Fire & Kitchen Inspection Fees
• Fire Extinguishers, Smoke Detectors, First Aid Kits
• First Aid, CPR
• Food Handler’s Permit Training
• Any other requirements for licensure as documented by Utah Child Care Licensing
